“We’re very pleased; it’s been great for our family. We would definitely recommend to other families that if their kid hasn’t quite found their spot, they should explore Islesboro,”
-Jennifer Temple, Parent of a Magnet Student alumnus
The Magnet Student Program
Since the early 1990s, students from the mainland have chosen to cross the bay each day to attend Islesboro Central School through our magnet program. ICS offers a small, safe, and supportive environment where students are known as individuals and challenged as learners. We meet students where they are—academically, socially, and emotionally—through personalized instruction, strong relationships, and a flexible approach to learning. Our K–12 structure fosters strong relationships, creative teaching, and unique opportunities—from hands-on science and outdoor education to exceptional college counseling and independent study. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and a close-knit community, ICS is a place where students can thrive both academically and personally. The magnet program makes this experience accessible to students beyond our island.
“The mainland students have this unique opportunity to come to understand the very special nature of island life.”
-Jackie Hughes, English Teacher
“Our kids are getting a private school education in a public school setting. ”
-Anne Matava, German Teacher
